The characters include caretaker and handyman, oom Snoek; his wife antie Snoek; scheming estate agent Pottie; his wife Anna; his pretty secretary Tillie; cafe owner Frik and his wife Hessie; bank manager Tom and his wife Marié; and mrs. Van Dyk and Tant Kittie, two terrible gossips.

Series based on Joy Packer’s novel, set on the wine estate Dieu Donne in the Constantia Valley. Young Roxanne’s mother fights for the French Resistance during the Second World War. To keep her daughter safe, she sends her to the old family estate, Dieu Donne. This is then where Roxanne grows up and becomes involved with two men, farm manager Thinus and English journalist Hal. Meanwhile, Granny Con, the aristocratic matriarch of the De Valois family, has to do all she can to save the estate from greedy town developers.

Drama series about the rise and fall of a man who finds sudden wealth. After his wife's death, Ponko receives a R50,000 life insurance-payout. The series follows his relationships with  friends and family, and traces the effects of his new-found riches. Le Tla Mpona was the first drama series on the new TV3 channel and also the first South African drama series in a black African language. It was based on a popular radio drama by David Mothibi.

Justin, Zip, Sue and their other friends use their imaginations to travel through time and space as they learn more about gravity, electomagnetism, the moon and more. They meet some of the most important figures in science, including Sir Isaac Newton, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison and the mathematicians of ancient Egypt.

Short series about a young boy who lives on a game reserve. The series followed the real-life adventures of 10-year-old Mickey Reilly, whose father Terence was the head game ranger at Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary near Mbabane in Swaziland. With his dad, Mickey experienced many adventures, like when they moved animals from one reserve to another, or when Mr. Reilly had to save a colony of rare vultures. We also see the friendship between Mickey and the orphaned Gnu, who was rescued in the veld and would follow Mickey wherever he went.

Musical comedy series for children, following the adventures of two clowns. Alphonse is conceited and a bit of a bully. Annie, on the other hand, is sweet, innocent and very gullible. The series was aimed at children between 7 and 13 years.

When Joachim Verwey’s girlfriend leaves him for another man, she has the audacity to take his grandmother’s beautiful old piano with her. He swears to find her and the piano and to bring them both back where they belong – with him, in Soekmekaar. He sets off to Johannesburg with nothing but a suitcase, revolver, bicycle and his pet chameleon Pontius, and soon he finds himself mixed up with criminals and knee-deep in adventure.

The adventures of a little dog named Cheesecake and his good friend Tennessee, the cat from the American South. They often play detective to bring down villaineous theatre cat Reginald who loves wearing costumes and playing nasty tricks. His sidekick is an elegant pink poodle named Madame – though she’s ready to drop his side when too much trouble brews. The series was a co-production between the SABC and the UK’s ITV. While head of production Nick Orchard and puppeteer Mary Edwards were British, the rest of the production team came from South Africa.

Drama about a small-town newspaper and its fight for press freedom and the truth. Andries Winterbach, the editor of a small rural newspaper, suspects a respected and influential town councillor of manipulating livestock auctions. He tasks his head reporter, Pletz van Pletzen, with unmasking the corrupt Hendrik Breedt – but Breedt doesn’t take their accusations lying down and swears revenge on Winterbach and his paper. He even uses the crush his son Tom has on reporter Helene MacDonald to make life difficult for the paper.

Drama series set on the Kimberley diamond fields shortly after the Second World War. Two ruthless villains, Steyn and Fred Allison, are getting rich by swindling people out of their valuable diamond claims. Mr. and Mrs. Daneel refuse to fall for their scam and are murdered. When their 9-year-old son comes across his parents’ bodies, he swears revenge. Nobody will believe the young boy’s story, however, and he has to bide his time until he’s old enough to take on Steyn and Allison.

Drama series following the boardroom and bedroom intrigue of a PR agency and its people. Westgate PR company is plunged into crisis when one of the founders, Franklyn Westgate, dies. A power struggle develops between co-founder Warren Bartlett and Franklyn’s power-hungry widow Alice, who wants to see her son in charge. But young Ashley Westgate is a playboy and knows nothing about the business, and under his control the company sinks deeper into trouble. Meanwhile, the company’s art director, Ivor Kraft, is out for revenge after an accident caused by Ashley has left him scarred.

Historical drama. In 1900, French doctor Jacques Cervin inherits a South African gold mine from a dying patient. He sets off to the Transvaal where he soon becomes embroiled in the Anglo-Boer War. Adventure follows as he fights on the side of the Boers – and falls in love with an English woman. Other characters are Mary Lawson, the English nurse; Marguerite, a boer girl; the traitor Meeker; the deceitful Praxton; Jacob the young boer commando leader; Sir Henry, the director of a British mining company and Mr. and Mrs. Hasenfeld, Boer sympathisers from the Cape.

Ntunizini Spa is a haven for those wanting to rest, lose weight, regain their health – or looking for romance. The series follows five staff members of this health resort: Neil, the gym instructor and masseuse that makes women swoon; Gustav Gouws, the no-nonsense resort manager and doctor; hostess and guest liaison Gabby; the somewhat naive receptionist Anita; and Bennie, who is spending the holiday before university starts as a handyman at the spa. Episode were written by different writers, overseen by Kobus Louw.

His unusual teaching methods and youthful nature quickly make him the children’s hero – and land him in trouble with the school principal and more traditional school staff members. The stories focus on the students and how, inspired by Mr. de Wet, they come to face their issues.

When George and Eunice Firkel move into their new luxury flat, it’s a dream come true – until they meet the neighbours and discover exactly how thin the walls are. On the one side there’s Jewish couple Manny and Marsha Bloom, loud, interfering and parents of two terrors; on the other there’s Afrikaans couple Tokkie and Renata Muller, Tokkie a beer rep and ex-Springbok rugby player, Renata a doctoral candidate in sociology.

The adventures of the matchstick men from Vuurhoutjieland, told through songs. There’s Buksie, the leader; Hansie Houtskool, the clever one; Frikkie Fosfor, the naive one; self-confident Bella Brand; neurotic Feitjie Vlam; as well as Koos the vegetable man, Dr. Swael with his motorcar, Prof. Kallie Kooltjievuur and the postman. The characters were all made from real matches and matchboxes and the series was filmed using the black theatre method.

The first local Afrikaans animated series, based on T.O. Honiball's comics about Oom Kaspaas' rather fanciful hunting adventures. Young Nefie is an eager listener, even if he doesn't always believe the tall tales. For the TV stories, the original scripts from the 1950s radio series were used.

Sequel to the drama series The Settlers, about a group of 1820 British settlers in the Cape Colony. It is more than a decade after the settlers landed. A more mature Jeremiah returns with his wife Eliza and their six children. Although the settlers' are more well off than when they first arrived, the Cape Frontier Wars and the Great Trek cause more than enough upheaval.

Señor Onyon’s friends include miss Tomato, Granny Smith, Patch Potato, Señor Lemon, Lowly Cabbage and Creepy Crawly the Earthworm. And don’t forget about the chef, always on the lookout for a Spanish onion for his stew...

Señor Onyon and his friends appeared on TV for the first time in 1977, as part of the children’s series Playhouse.

Comedy series about two tramps and their adventures on the streets. Despite their different backgrounds and reasons for being on the street, Attie and Joos decide to throw their lot in together. Attie, clearly used to the finer things in life, is always dressed in his threadbare suit. He’s a smooth talker and very good at getting Joos - not the brightest spark - to do all the hard work.

Costume drama that tells the story of the Vermeulen sisters. In 1904 a young teacher, Annemarie Herbst, arrives to lodge at Meulenhof, a historical Cape manor and home to the three unmarried Vermeulen sisters. The household is run by Sarah, strict and stubborn. Years ago, on her wedding day, she refused to marry her fiancé when she discovered that he and her former fiancé had gambled for her hand. Nellie is the rebellious sister who tries to shake off her sister's yoke, while Pauline is shy and introverted. We discover each sister's story through flashbacks to 1889 and 1896.

Drama series based on the successful radio serial and set in a Cape fishing town in the 1940s. It is a time when food shortages in America and Europe have lead to a boom in the fishing industry. Fish factories have shot up all along the coast and fishermen have become rich virtually overnight. But in Vredehoek, community leader Samuel Zeeman has resisted progress. He is opposed by Piet Landman, who after a 40-year absence has returned a wealthy businessman and hopes to make Vredehoek part of the modern world.

His twelve-year-old neighbour Miranda loves to visit him and listen to his tales of voyage and adventure. In their imaginations, the two are then whisked away to exotic places where they meet some interesting –  even dangerous – characters.

Medical drama following the lives of the personnel and patients of a general hospital. It is mainly set in three hospital departments, namely the men’s, women’s and emergency wards. Main characters include sister Cathy Graham who, despite her strict and serious exterior, has a soft spot for those in pain, and hospital porter Fred Jenkins, who knows everything that’s going on long before anybody else.

Main characters are the hapless Sherman, who keeps on having run-ins with corrupt commissioner MacFarlane and bathhouse owner Benny Franks; his right-hand man Samson, an escaped prisoner; young Elizabeth who comes to Pilgrim’s Rest to get married but lands behind the bar counter when the engagement goes sour; Dynamite Dolly, who owns the local hotel and who digs her own claim; and Sonja, the prim and proper shop owner.

Drama series following the lives, loves and hardships of a group of 1820 British settlers. The story was largely based on the diaries of one Jeremiah Goldswain, who is also the main character of the series.

Goldswain, a craftsman, arrives with the first group of settlers. He falls in love with Eliza Debnam, whose family’s higher social status makes them look down on her young suitor.

The Settlers was followed by its sequel, A Settler's Tale.

Children’s series about Clary, the owner of a little rumble store, and her puppet friends Percy Parrot, Mango Monkey and Alfredo Armadillo. Clary’s aunt is travelling the world and sends postcards from each exotic location she visits. In 1977 Bangalory Time got a new storyteller when Clary left, and Marianne continued to entertain the children and puppets until the series ended in 1978.
