Rieksie Rautenbach, Baasspeurder

TV series, 1986

Youth series about a woman detective who gets stationed in a small Free State town. Rieksie Rautenbach gets sent to Blesbokfontein and quickly decides to get the station back into shape. Her station commander doesn't seem convinced that a woman could be up for the job and they are constantly at odds with each other. But Rieksie doesn't stand back for her colleagues and often gets the bad guys, whether it's thieves, kidnappers, drug dealers or murderers they're after. Pieriewieriepark

TV series, 1986

Education series in which Pieriewierie and his friends teach children about all sorts of things, from road rules to fruit and vegetables. Pieriewierie lives in a magic tree in Pieriewieriepark and gets regular visits from Parkie, the park caretaker; Sonja the vegetable seller; Mr. Postman; and the children. There's also Bravo Brak and Crescendo Kat, the glamourous cabaret pair who sing beautiful songs about all sorts of interesting topics. Read more about Pieriewieriepark

Skoolplaasstories

TV series, 1985

Youth series set at a boarding school. The hero is Franco Russos, deputy headboy and the school's star athlete. Life is not easy for Franco: not only does he come from a poor family, but Afrikaans teacher Skellie has taken a serious disliking in him. Then there's also Herkie, a difficult boy in standard 8 who holds a grudge and has sworn to make as much trouble as possible. It's not all bleak, though, as Franco finds romance and friendship. Die Pikkewouters van Amper-Stamperland

TV series, 1984

Puppet series about the Pikkewouters and their quest to find the land where there are no pesky Slakkelange. The location of this far-off land is a secret and can only be solved if you have all three parts of the riddles. The guardians of the riddles are the Koggeljaan, the Spinnelak and the Krokkenoster, and the Pikkewouters set off to visit these three creatures. Sien Jy Nou

TV series, 1984

Youth series. A teenage girl and her family struggle to adjust after she is blinded in an accident. During a school concert, a piece of the set falls on Tonia Visser. She is left blind, but refuses to go to a school for blind students and insist on carrying on with her life as before. Her decision has major consequences for her family - father, twin sister Berna, little brother Ferdie and housekeeper Mirrie - as well as her friends and teachers at school. Ferdie

TV series, 1983

Action-packed children's series. Secret agent cat Ferdinand van Oranje receives his missions from a voice over his pocket radio. Though we never see his mysterious boss, we can rest assured that he will be there when Ferdie needs help. Ferdie's nemesis is Meesterbrein, who is just as mysterious as Ferdie's boss: all we ever see of the fiend are his two hands. He leaves the real dirty work to his two sidekicks, Rotbeen and Skiergesig, who never miss a chance to make life difficult for Ferdie and his clever assistant, Katinka. Read more about Ferdie
